Am letzten Samstag hatte ich Geburtstag! 🙂 Der Großstadtprinz und ich sind in unserem kleinen Auto ins Rheinland gefahren, um dort ein bisschen mit Familie und Freunden zu feiern, und ich hab das Wochenende wahnsinnig genossen. Und ja, ich zeige euch heute ein paar meiner Geschenke (ich bin mal wieder nach Strich und Faden verwöhnt worden), aber nicht um damit rumzuprotzen, sondern weil ich vermute, dass ein paar der Sachen auch für euch interessant sein könnten.
Den Anfang machen diese Sticker von dm, die der Großstadtprinz mir geschenkt hat. Vielleicht habt ihr mitbekommen, dass es bei dm seit einiger Zeit Scrapbooking-Produkte gibt, die das gleiche Prinzip verwenden, das auch bei Project Life zum Einsatz kommt, nämlich unterteilte Fotohüllen und passende Journaling Cards. Dazu hatte ich im Frühjahr auch einen Blogpost geplant, aber dann kam der spontane Umzug nach Oldenburg dazwischen. Ein Update zu meinem aktuellen Memorykeeping-Prozedere folgt aber demnächst. Aber zurück zu den Stickern: Jede Packung steht unter einem bestimmten Thema, wie z.B. Hochzeit, Baby, Reisen etc., und neben den fröhlich-bunten Designs gefällt mir vor allem, dass die Sprüche darauf zum Teil auch deutschsprachig sind – falls ihr ein bisschen öfter in der Scrapbooking-Welt unterwegs seid, wisst ihr, wie selten sowas ist.
Dann hab ich mir natürlich auch den neuesten Asterix* gewünscht. Ich LIEBE Asterix, seit ich ein Kind bin, hab alle Bände mehrfach gelesen (bis auf die zwei bis drei neuesten, die meist nur einmal) und kann viele stellenweise auswendig. Total nerdy, ich weiß 😉 Diesen hier fand ich solide, durchaus unterhaltsam, aber er reicht halt nicht an die frühere Ruhmes- und Blütezeit von Uderzo und Goscinny heran. Seufz.
Kleines Gag-Geschenk einer lieben Freundin, offenbar in Dänemark gekauft: Textmarker in Nagellackform. Finde ich sehr witzig! 🙂
Auch von einer (anderen) lieben Freundin, aber kein Gag: Diese wunderschönen Dessertschüsseln mit passenden Löffeln aus Melamin. Ich mag die pastelligen, sehr femininen Farben sehr! Wir haben sie auch schon eingeweiht, man kann ganz hervorragend Stracciatella-Eis daraus essen 😉
Von meiner Tante hab ich diesen sehr schönen Wandkalender* für’s nächste Jahr bekommen. Jeden Monat gibt’s ein buntes Blumenmuster im Watercolour-Look. Freu mich schon darauf, den im Januar aufzuhängen!
Mein Liebster hat mir außer den Stickern noch ein Parfum geschenkt, und zwar Emporio Armani lei/elle/she/ella*. Ich hatte diesen Duft damals, als er rauskam, schon einmal und hab ihn abgöttisch geliebt. Für mich der Inbegriff von Luxus. Ich mag auch andere Parfums von Armani sehr gerne, z.B. Armani Mania, aber der hier ist und bleibt mein Favorit. Seit meinem Geburtstag schleiche ich tagsüber ein paar Mal heimlich ins Schlafzimmer, wo der Flakon auf der Kommode steht, und schnuppere ein bisschen dran 🙂
Das absolute Highlight der “Ausbeute” ist aber zweifellos meine neue Nähmaschine*! Meine alte (eine recht günstige von Singer) ist vor einiger Zeit kaputtgegangen, und selbst abgesehen von DIY-Projekten und Co. hab ich es sehr vermisst, eine Nähmaschine zu haben. Allein schon zum Umnähen von Jeans (#Zwergenprobleme). Meine Eltern haben mir außerdem diesen süßen Pünktchenstoff dazugeschenkt, der ja wohl ganz laut meinen Namen schreit. Ich weiß auch schon, was ich daraus nähen werde, und bei der Gelegenheit kann ich auch dann auch berichten, wie die Maschine sich macht.
So, das war’s auch schon wieder von mir und meinem kleinen Geburtstagsupdate. Macht es gut, ihr Lieben, bis zum nächsten Mal!

Last saturday was my birthday 🙂 The boyfriend and I drove to the Rhineland in our little car to celebrate with family and friends, and I enjoyed that weekend immensely. And yes, today I’ll show you a few of my birthday presents. I’m not trying to brag, but I genuinely think some of these things might be interesting to you!
I’ll start with these scrapbooking stickers by the German drugstore dm. They came out with pocket scrapbooking products a few months ago, and I love that these stickers have german words and sentiments on them, which is very hard to find. I’m not sure if you can get these products outside of Germany, though…
Of course I also had to wish for the newest Asterix comic. I have LOVED Asterix since I was a child, I’ve read all of the comics several times (apart from the two or three newest ones, those I’ve read only once), and I can even recite some passages and phrases. It’s super nerdy, I know 😉 I liked this comic, it was decent and entertaining, but not as great as the earlier ones from Goscinny and Uderzo. Pity.
Highlighter pens that look like nail polishes. Very cute and funny gift from a dear friend, apparently purchased in Denmark! 🙂
Another sweet gift from another sweet friend: Beautiful melamine bowls with matching spoons. I love the girly, pastel colours! We have used them already, and they are great for eating stracciatella icecream! 😉
My auntie gave me this gorgeous wall calendar for 2018, with lots of floral watercolour illustrations in beautiful colours. Can’t wait to hang this up in January!
The boyfriend also gave me a perfume: Emporio Armani lei/elle/she/ella. I’ve had this scent before, back when it first came out, and I absolutely loved it and love it still. It’s the quintessential female luxury for me. I also love other scents from Armani, like Armani Mania, but this one is still my favourite. I’ve been sneaking into the bedroom, where the bottle sits on top of my dresser, just to get a sniff. 🙂
Undoubtedly the highlight of my birthday “loot”: My new sewing machine! My old one (a rather inexpensive one by Singer) broke a while ago, and I’ve terribly missed having a sewing machine at my disposal. Even apart from DIY projects and the like, just to shorten my jeans (#shortgirlproblems). My parents also gave me this adorable dotty fabric along with the machine, which just screams my name. I know already what I’m gonna do with it, and when I show it to you, I’ll also let you know how the machine performed 🙂

Ich hab in letzter Zeit relativ wenig auf Instagram gepostet (Schande über mein Haupt, ich gelobe feierlich Besserung!), daher gibt’s aus dem Oktober eigentlich nicht genug Bilder, die einen Instarückblick rechtfertigen würden. Da ich aber trotzdem gerne einen schreiben wollte, und es Ende September auch keinen gab, fasse ich die beiden Monate einfach mal zusammen – ich hoffe, das ist ok für euch. Wenn ihr also ein paar random und wild zusammengewürfelte Glücksschnipsel der letzten acht Wochen sehen wollt, lest einfach weiter! 😉

November is upon us, Ladies and Gentlemen! Here in Germany, November 1st is a national holiday (yay!), but you might be recovering from Halloween, depending on where you live and if you celebrate Halloween at all… Fun fact: Our holiday is called Allerheiligen, which in English means All Hallows, and Halloween is celebrated on the Eve of All Hallows, thus it’s called All Hallows Eve, which then became Halloween… Am I boring you yet? Did you know that already? 😉
Anyway, I wanted to do a monthly review highlights type thingy (I am SO eloquent today), but I didn’t post much on Instagram in the past few weeks (I shall do better in the future, I promise!), so I’m combining the months of September and October into one post. Wann habt ihr das letzte Mal Post verschickt? Einen Brief geschrieben, per Hand, den guten Füller rausgekramt und ein paar freundliche Zeilen für eine liebe Person zu Papier gebracht? Oder jemanden zum Geburtstag statt per SMS oder Facebook mit einer kleinen Postkarte gratuliert?
Weil ich aus erster Hand weiß, wieviel Freude es macht, wenn man nicht immer nur Rechnungen und Werbung im Briefkasten findet, sondern auch liebe Grüße von Freunden oder Verwandten, und weil es mindestens genauso viel Freude macht, eine solche postalische Aufmerksamkeit vorzubereiten und abzuschicken, zeige ich euch heute eine kleine Happy Mail, die ich letztens an eine meiner Brieffreundinnen verschickt habe.
Und ja, ich habe für diese Fotos gelbe Herbstblätter gesammelt. Was tut man nicht alles. 😉
Aber zurück zum Thema: Ich hatte Lust, eine Karte zu basteln, also hab ich als Basis dieses sehr schlichte Set mit Klappkarte und passendem Umschlag aus Kraftpapier genommen (hab ich irgendwann mal bei Action gefunden, glaube ich). Und eigentlich alle anderen Deko-Elemente sind kostenlose Printables, die ihr hier herunterladen könnt. Vorne auf die Karte habe ich dieses tolle Papier mit dem bunten Herbstbaum geklebt, dazu noch ein kleiner Gruß, fertig.
Da ich wusste, dass ich mehr zu berichten hatte als in so eine kleine Klappkarte passt, hab ich einen meiner Lieblingstricks angewandt und die Karte einfach in ein kleines Büchlein umfunktioniert. Dafür hab ich linierte Blätter aus einem A4-Briefblock verwendet, quer halbiert, ineinander gefaltet und mit dem niedlichen gestreiften Faden festgebunden. Und schon hat man ganz viel Platz zum Schreiben!
Auf die Rückseite der Karte hab ich nochmal den tollen bunten Herbstbaum geklebt.
Der Umschlag ist auch relativ fix fertig gebastelt: Adressaufkleber, ein Streifen mit Muster (ich gestehe, der sollte eigentlich an den unteren Rand, aber so sieht’s auch gut aus, finde ich!), ein bisschen Deko, fertig.
Dann noch eine lustige Briefmarke drauf, und ab in den Briefkasten damit! 🙂 Ihr seht, ist gar nicht schwer, dauert nicht sehr lange, und ihr macht jemand anderem eine Riesenfreude damit. Und euch selber auch, versprochen!
When was the last time you sent out some snail mail? An actual letter, handwritten, where you got out your good pen and put a few friendly lines down on paper for a dear friend or relative? Or said Happy Birthday to someone not via text or Facebook, but with a little postcard?
I know first-hand how much joy it can bring to find sweet greetings from friends and family in your mailbox, instead of the same old bills and advertisements, and I also know that creating and sending these little greetings is at least as much fun as receiving them. That’s why today I’m sharing a little Happy Mail that I sent out to one of my penpals a few days ago.
And yes, I went outside and gathered bright yellow leaves for these photos. The things I do for you guys! 😉
But back to the subject: I wanted to make a card, so I chose this very simple kraft paper set as my base. Basically all of the decorative elements (aren’t they so pretty?) are free printables you can download here. On the front of the card I pasted that gorgeous paper with a colourful autumn tree, added a little greeting, and called it done.
I knew I wanted to write more than would fit inside that card, so I used one of my favourite tricks and turned the card into a little booklet. I used lined paper from a letter writing pad, cut it in half, folded the sheets into one another and attached them to the card with a bit of stripy twine.
I added another version of that colourful tree on the back of the card.
And here’s the envelope: Just an adress label, a patterned stripe and a little decor, and voilà!
Finally I added a fun stamp and sent my autumnal letter off to my penpal 🙂 As you can see, so easy to craft, takes very little time, and will make someone’s day. And yours as well, I promise!

Ja. Ich bin ein Herbstfan, das wisst ihr ja mittlerweile alle. Brauche ich euch gar nicht mehr zu erzählen. Deshalb hör ich jetzt auf hier rumzuschnacken, und zeig euch lieber die sechs herbstlichen DIYs, die ich für euch rausgesucht habe. Yeah, well, I’m a fan of autumn (or fall, depending on where you’re from). You all know that, that’s old news. That’s why I’m stopping the rambling here and instead show you these six autumnal DIYs that I found. Have fun reading, and I hope you’re a little inspired to craft afterwards! 🙂

Hallo und happy Donnerstag, Freunde! Heute hab ich einen kleinen (mittelgroßen?) Interior-Post für euch, seid ihr bereit? 😉
Der Großstadtprinz und ich sind ja Anfang des Jahres umgezogen. Wir haben eine sehr schöne Wohnung gefunden, die gut zu uns passt, aber wer von euch in letzter Zeit umgezogen ist, weiß wie das ist: Am Anfang ist immer Chaos. Das liegt daran, dass eine der Voraussetzungen des Ordnunghaltens ist, dass dein ganzer Kram einen Platz hat, wo er hingehört. In deiner alten Wohnung hast du für deinen ganzen Krempel (und sosehr ich diese Minimalismus-Bewegung auch bewundere, ich habe VIEL Krempel) ein System aus passenden Möbeln, Schubladen, Boxen, kurzum: Alles hat seinen Platz.
Und dann ziehst du um. Und dein ganzes System ist auf einmal futsch. Und es braucht einfach Zeit, bis du dir ein neues System erarbeitet hast, bis du deinen ganzen Krempel durchsortiert und überlegt hast, wo und wie du den am besten aufbewahrst. Vielleicht kannst du einige Komponenten aus deinem alten System übernehmen, an anderen Ecken wirst du komplett neu überlegen müssen, weil du vielleicht andere Möbel hast, oder nicht alle Möbel im gleichen Zimmer sind wie vorher, oder deine Boxen und Schubladen plötzlich mit was anderem, augenscheinlich wichtigerem gefüllt sind.
Und ja, der Umzug ist jetzt ein Dreivierteljahr her, und in der Zeit hätten wir eigentlich unser Ordnungssystem etablieren können. Aber: Ich war sechs Monate davon nicht zuhause. Und neben einem Fulltimejob und dem Aufrechterhalten einer Fernbeziehung (d.h. deine Wochenenden sind auch voll!) rückt das Chaos in der Wohnung irgendwie in den Hintergrund. Weil: Geht doch irgendwie. Sieht halt nicht schön aus, aber funktioniert doch einigermaßen. Und Besuch kriegen wir ja eh nicht, ist ja nie jemand zuhause.
So, jetzt bin ich aber zuhause. Und jetzt fängt es an mich zu nerven, das Chaos. Vor allem auf dem Schreibtisch, der so voll ist mit Krempel, dass ich da gar nicht mehr arbeiten mag. Und das wiederum ist gar nicht gut.
Seid ihr bereit, einen (kurzen, bitte!) Blick auf das Schreibtischmonster zu werfen? Achtung, falls du meine Mutter bist, bitte jetzt mit geschlossenen Augen weiter nach unten scrollen.
Urgs. Grauenvoll. Und dann kam die Mail von Leitz, in der ich gefragt wurde, ob ich nicht Lust hätte, die neuen Aufbewahrungsboxen aus der MyBox-Serie zu testen und zu verbloggen. Ja bitte, danke, perfektes Timing.
Tja, und nach einem halben Nachmittag Wühlen und Räumen und Sortieren sieht mein Schreibtisch jetzt so aus:
Ahhhh. So viel besser. Ist das nicht seltsam, wie sehr einem eine aufgeräumte, optisch ansprechende Umgebung Frieden und Gelassenheit gibt? Fast schon ein bisschen fernöstlich, alles. The Zen of Ordnung. 😀
Jetzt aber mal ein paar Worte zu den Boxen. Sie sind, wie gesagt, von Leitz, und es gibt sie in verschiedenen Größen, Formen und (Akzent-) Farben. Ich habe mich für das schlichte dunkle Grau als Akzentfarbe entschieden, weil mir das am neutralsten erschien und ich so die Boxen überall einsetzen kann – es gibt aber auch noch pink, blau und grün.
Gehen wir doch mal von links nach rechts durch. Die blaue Schubladenbox finde ich nach wie vor sehr praktisch, deshalb habe ich die in den Schreibtisch 2.0 integriert. Obendrauf steht die sog. Aufbewahrungsschale von Leitz, die die perfekte Größe hat für mein ganzes Planner-Zubehör, Stickerbücher usw.
Und Pummeluff ist mit von der Partie. Aus Gründen. 😉
Weiter rechts folgen eine kleinere Aufbewahrungsbox (mit Deckel!) und eine zweite Aufbewahrungsschale. Die Boxen mit Deckel sind deswegen toll, weil man da alles reinschmeißen kann, Deckel drauf, sieht trotzdem gut aus. Damit ich nicht vergesse, in welche Box ich was reingeschmissen habe, habe ich die Boxen mit meinem Labelmaker beschriftet. In einer perfekten Welt hätte ich jetzt einen Schneideplotter und damit aus Vinyl fancy Aufkleber gebastelt, die farblich passen und eine coole Schriftart haben und alles. Aber hey, man tut was man kann! 😉
In der Schale (ohne Deckel) bewahre ich alle Briefe und Karten auf, die ich von meinen Brieffreundinnen bekommen habe (danke euch, Mädels!). Ich hab sie nach Absender sortiert und zu Bündeln geschnürt, wie man das manchmal in Jane-Austen-Filmen sieht. Wahrscheinlich müssen die nicht unbedingt auf meinem Schreibtisch sein, aber ich find’s nett, die ab und zu anzuschauen 🙂
Ein sehr, sehr cooles Produkt aus der MyBox-Reihe sind diese Organiser mit Griff und Inneneinteilung! Perfekt für diesen ganzen Kleinkram, den wir alle auf dem Schreibtisch griffbereit haben wollen. Diese Boxen gibt’s in zwei verschiedenen Größen, und sie passen auch perfekt als Einsatz in die größeren Boxen rein (wie das aussehen könnte, zeige ich euch in den nächsten Tagen auf Instagram 😉 ).
Eine von den ganz großen Boxen steht auch noch auf dem Schreibtisch in der Ecke – dieses Format ist groß genug für A4-Papiere, und darin bewahre ich u.a. allerlei Papierreste auf (farblich sortiert, in Klarsichthüllen). Weil die Deckel der Boxen so stylish und schlicht und flach sind, kann man da auch noch sehr gut was obendrauf stellen; in diesem Fall steht jetzt mein Selphy-Fotodrucker auf der dicken Kiste. Ich bemühe mich aber, den Deckel der Boxen allgemein nicht zu vollzustellen, sonst läuft man Gefahr, dass man nicht mehr an den Inhalt herankommt, ohne den Deckel umständlich freizuräumen.
Auf der Fensterbank hinter dem Schreibtisch steht auch noch ein bisschen was (wie gesagt, VIEL Krempel!): Hier kann man auch schön sehen, wie modular das System ist, denn ich habe zwei große Boxen ineinandergestapelt, was sehr gut funktioniert. Daneben steht noch eine kleinere Box mit Deckel, und dann kommen meine ganzen Stifte, nach Farben sortiert. Wenn ich das schon nicht mit unseren Büchern machen darf (seufz), dann bitte wenigstens mit meinen Stiften.
Insgesamt bin ich sehr, sehr happy mit meinem neuen, aufgeräumten Schreibtisch, wo alles seinen Platz hat! Die Boxen sind sehr stabil und shiny und sehen sehr, sehr gut aus. Und sind auch noch praktisch dazu. I like!

Hello and happy Thursday, friends! Today I have a little (well, medium-sized) interior post for you, are you ready? 😉
You might remember that the boyfriend and Imoved house at the beginning of the year. We found a nice little flat, which very much suits our needs, but if you have ever done a move yourself, you’ll know this to be true: In the beginning there’s always a huge mess. The reason for that is that in order to keep a space tidy, every single item needs a place where it belongs. In your old apartment or house, you had a whole system established for all of your stuff (and as much as I admire all those trendy minimalists out there, I have a LOT of stuff), which consisted of furniture, drawers, storage boxes, in short: Everything had a home.
And then you move. And your entire system is gone. And it just takes time to work out a new system, until you’ve gone trough all your stuff and decided where to put it all. Perhaps you can implement a few of your old storage solutions into your new space, but there will be areas where those won’t work at all and you’ll have to come up with something new. Maybe you’ll use different furniture, or the furniture won’t be in the same room as before, or all of your boxes and drawers are suddenly filled with something else.
And yes, I know it’s been nine months since we’ve moved, and that should be more than enough time to create a new organizational system. But for six of these nine months I haven’t been home. And next to working a fulltime job and maintaining a long distance relationship (which means your weekends are full too), the mess in the apartment kind of gets shoved into the back of your head. It’s fine, it sort of works, somehow, doesn’t it? Doesn’t look good, and you’re not happy with it, but whatever. It’s not like we’re getting visitors or anything, since there’s nobody home anyway.
But now I am home. And now the mess starts to bother me. Especially on my desk, which is so full of stuff that I don’t want to work there anymore. And that is not a good thing.
Brace yourselves, for I will give you a (short!) glimpse into what my desk looked like before. If you are my mother reading this, please close your eyes and just scroll down.
Urgh. Horrible. And then this lovely company Leitz emailed me and asked if I wanted to try out their new line of storage boxes. Yes please, thank you, perfect timing.
Well, after half an afternoon of sorting and organizing and cleaning, my desk now looks like this:
Aaahh. SO much better. Isn’t it odd how a tidy, pretty environment gives you such serenity? It’s the Zen of organization 😀
But let’s talk about the boxes. They are, as I said, made by the German company Leitz, and they come in different sizes, shapes and (accent) colours. I chose the ones with the dark grey bottom, because I felt those were most neutral and I could use them anywhere I wanted – but they also come in (white with) pink, blue and green.
Let me talk you through from left to right. I still like that blue drawer thingy, so I incorporated it into the new and improved work space. On top I put an open box, which has the perfect size for all my planner stuff, sticker books and such.
Jigglypuff is there as well. For reasons. 😉
Next I have a smaller, lidded box and another open one. I love the boxes with the lids, because you can just put your stuff in there, put the lid on, and it still looks neat. I labeled the boxes with my labelmaker, so that I won’t forget what’s in which container. In a perfect crafty world I’d own a cutting machine and cut my own labels in beautiful colours and cool fonts. But hey, we’re working with what we’ve got here. 😉
The open container houses all the lovely letters and cards I got sent by my sweet penpals (thanks again, ladies!). I sorted them by sender and tied them together with ribbon, which feels very Jane-Austen-y to me 😉 They probably don’t really have to sit on my desk, but I like looking at them from time to time.
This next product is really, really cool: It’s a tray with a handle and seperate compartments. Perfect to corral all those little bits and bobs we need on our desks. These containers come in two different sizes, and they fit nicely into the bigger boxes as well (which I’ll show you on Instagram in a few days 😉 ).
In the corner I put one of the very big boxes – this size even fits A4-sized papers, and I keep all sorts of paper scraps in there (sorted by colour, in sheet protectors). The lids are sleek and stylish and flat, so you can use them as trays and put something on top of them. This one holds my Selphy photo printer. I try not to put too much onto the lid, though, otherwise you might not want to open the box again.
There’s even more containers on the windowsill behind the desk (like I said, I have LOTS of stuff): Here you can see how modular the system is, because I stacked two boxes into each other, which works very well. Next to that there’s a smaller box, and then there are all my pens and pencils, also sorted by colour. I’m not allowed to do that with our books, although I really, really want to, so I’ll have to make do with the pens.
Overall I’m very, very happy with my new, organized workspace, where there’s a designated place for everything! The containers are very sturdy and shiny and neat-looking, and practical as well. I like!

Lauter Neuanfänge diesen Monat. Meine Weiterbildung ist vorbei, ich hab ein Zertifikat in der Tasche und bin jetzt erstmal wieder im Ruhrpott beim Großstadtprinzen. Und hab endlich wieder Zeit zum Bloggen. Ich hab euch vermisst, ihr Lieben! <3
Meine Heimkehr haben wir am Wochenende schonmal mit einem ausgiebigen (und ein klein wenig abenteuerlichen) Herbstspaziergang eingeläutet. Abenteuerlich deshalb, weil wir einfach so drauflos gestiefelt sind, ohne uns vorher nach Wanderwegen zu erkundigen, sodass wir etwa eine Stunde querfeldein durchs Unterholz gekraxelt sind. Upsi!
Es gab haufenweise interessante Pilze zu sehen – kennt sich von euch jemand mit Pilzen aus und weiß, wie die alle heißen? Hinweise gerne in die Kommentare! 😉
Ok, die Bestimmung dieses roten Kerlchens kriege ich noch gerade selber hin 😀 Ist das nicht ein besonders fotogenes Exemplar? Ich hab gequietscht vor Freude, als ich ihn entdeckt habe!
Haaach, der Herbst ist einfach meine liebste Jahreszeit. Jetzt gerade ist er besonders schön, finde ich, bevor es im November nass und kalt und ungemütlich wird. Wobei der November auch seine guten Seiten hat, z.B. Sankt Martin, oder mein Geburtstag (höhö)… 😉
Lots of new beginnings this month. I’m done with my qualification thingy, got my certificate, and I’m back in the Ruhr area with the boyfriend. And finally I have enough time for blogging again. I’ve missed you guys! <3
We celebrated my homecoming on the weekend with a long (and a bit adventurous) autumn walk. I’m saying adventurous, because we didn’t bother to look up hiking trails beforehand, and kind of just went for it. Which resulted in an hour of scrambling through the shrubbery. Whoopsie!

Well, I might manage to name this little red guy on my own 😀 Isn’t it a particularly pretty specimen? I was squealing with joy when I found it!
Oh, I just love autumn, it’s my very favourite season. I think right now it’s most beautiful outside, before it gets wet and cold and nasty in November. BUT, November does have its perks, for instance St. Martin’s Day, which is one of my favourite German holidays, and then of course my birthday (teehee)… 😉

Well hello there, you guys. I kind of don’t know how to start this post, being the first sign of life in months. All I can say that there were (once again) some changes in my situation, and blogging really wasn’t a priority for me. I will share more about that in a future post, but for today, I am doing one of my trusty DIY roundups. So without further ado, here are my favourite ideas of the last few weeks. Enjoy! 🙂
There are two major trends I’m seeing: cacti and tropical leaves and plants. How do you like those, are you totally hooked or totally over it already? And also – which idea is your favourite? 😉
Ähm, hallo, wo ist bitte der Januar geblieben?? War nicht gerade noch Silvester…? Kaum zu glauben, dass das neue Jahr schon wieder einen ganzen Monat alt ist. Trotzdem ist es wohl Zeit für den üblichen Monatsrückblick in Form von Instagram-Bildern… Falls ihr mir noch nicht folgt, könnt ihr das hier tun; ich hab jetzt auch angefangen, ein bisschen mit der Stories-Funktion rumzuspielen (ja ich weiß, total up to date mal wieder ^^). Aber genug der Eigenwerbung, los geht’s mit dem Instarückblick!
Zunächst einmal war ich natürlich damit beschäftigt, unsere neue Heimat zu erkunden. Mir sind schon ein paar unterhaltsame Straßennamen aufgefallen, rote Fachwerkhäuser und lebensgroße Herren aus Bronze, die verträumt auf den Phoenix-Seehinausblicken. Letzteren seht ihr auf dem ersten Bild (mit ein bisschen Schnee!), und ich hab ihn schon ein paar Mal mit dem Rad umrundet. Momentan ist da alles noch etwas kahl, aber in den wärmeren Jahreszeiten ist es bestimmt toll, einen (wenn auch künstlichen) See ganz in der Nähe zu haben!
Die Innenstadt hab ich mir natürlich auch schon angeschaut, und besonders begeistert bin ich von der riesigen idee-Filiale (definitiv mehr Auswahl als unser Laden in Bonn!) und, fast noch toller, vom Tiger Store schräg gegenüber (oder heißen die jetzt Flying Tiger? Steht aber nur Tiger außen dran… Verwirrend!). Das sind definitiv Geschäfte, wo ich ganz arg an mich halten muss, um nicht einfach alles mitzunehmen. Außerdem gab es eine kleine Sternchensticker-Explosion bei mir: Die kamen erstens auf meine neuen Hausschlüssel, die einfach mal alle gleich aussehen (colour-coding und so, ihr wisst schon), und zweitens wild verstreut auf ein Geburtstagspäckchen für eine liebe Freundin. Sie hat sich drüber gefreut, hat sie gesagt 🙂
Bei einem kleinen Tagestrip in die rheinische Heimat haben wir einen Zwischenstopp in Köln eingelegt und kurz, das muss sein, dem Dom Hallo gesagt (Steht noch. Alles gut.). Und natürlich hab ich auch wieder ein bisschen mein Essen fotografiert, was nicht ganz so peinlich ist, wenn man es in den eigenen vier Wänden macht, auswärts aber immer ein bisschen panne aussieht. Es gab unter anderem Obstsalat zum Frühstück, Bauernfrühstück mit Feldsalat (ironischerweise nicht zum Frühstück) und fantastische Spaghetti mit Garnelen in einer pikanten Tomaten-Frischkäse-Sauce.
Tja, und das war im Grunde mein Januar. Zumindest die visuelle Variante davon. Im Februar stehen ein paar spaßige Sachen an, also freu ich mich auf den nächsten Monat 🙂 Was war denn euer Highlight der ersten paar Wochen des Jahres?
Uhm, hello, can anybody tell me where January went?? Wasn’t it New Year’s just a few days ago? I can hardly believe that 2017 is a month old already. But I guess it’s still time for the usual monthly review via my Instagram posts… If you arent’t following me already, you can do so here; I have started playing around with the Stories feature now (I know, late to the party as always ^^). But let’s get on with the post, shall we?
Firstly I spent a lot of time exploring our new hometown (we moved to Dortmund at the beginning of the year, in case you didn’t know). I noticed a few amusing street names (the sign at the bottom right translates to: at the slim Mathilde, no clue what that is about!), bright red timbered houses and life-size gentlemen made from bronze, gazing lazily out on the Phoenix lake. You can see the lake in the first picture, including a little bit of snow, and I’ve already gone around it a few times with my bike. At the moment it’s all a little bare there, but I guess it’ll be nice in the warmer seasons to have a lake in the vicinity!
I also took a look at the city centre, and I was particularly excited about the huge craft store there (the chain is called “Idee”, which is german for “idea”, not sure if they have stores outside of Germany) and, almost even more excited, about the Tiger store across the street! Those are the kind of shops where I have to try really hard not to just grab everything in sight. I also may have overdone it with the little star stickers this month: I put them on my new house keys (since they all look the same, they needed to be colour-coded), and a few days later on a birthday package for a dear friend. She enjoyed them, though, at least that’s what she told me 🙂
We also took a little day trip to my Rhenisch home area (because of a family celebration), and as we changed trains in Cologne, we had to get outside just to say hi to the cathedral. It’s still there, so that’s good 🙂 And, of course, I took pictures of my food, which is slightly less awkward when you’re doing it in your own home, but can be quite embarassing when you’re eating out. Anyway, among other things I had fruit salad for breakfast, this wonderful german dish called a “farmer’s breakfast” (even though we don’t have it for breakfast), which consists of fried potatoes, little bacon cubes, onion and eggs, and then those fantastic spaghetti with prawns and a spicy tomato cream cheese sauce.
Yeah, and that was basically my month of January, at least the visual version of it. There are a few fun things happening in February, which I am excited about 🙂 What was your highlight of the past month?

Ich muss ja gestehen, die kleinen Kakteen find ich am allertollsten, auch wenn mir nicht so ganz klar ist, warum auf einmal alle so auf dem Sukkulenten-Trip sind… Aber so ist das wohl mit Trends, im Sommer wird auch alles wieder voll sein mit Flamingos und Ananas… Ananasse… Ananasfrüchten! I must say, I most adore those little cactus pincushions, even though I don’t quite get the current cacti and succulents hype… But I guess that’s the thing with trends, in summer we’ll pineapple and flamingo everything again, and nobody can really tell why 😀 Which idea do you like best? Freunde, große Ereignisse werfen ihre Schatten voraus! Es wird sich einiges ändern im Hause Großstadtprinzessin (sogar das Haus selbst), deshalb wollte ich euch mal berichten, was hier so ansteht, damit ihr auf dem neuesten Stand seid und eventuell auch eher nachvollziehen könnt, warum es hier demnächst vielleicht ein bisschen ruhiger werden könnte. Aber keine Panik, ich habe nicht vor, mit dem Bloggen aufzuhören oder sowas Schreckliches! 😉
Also, first things first: Der Großstadtprinz und ich haben ja im Frühjahr unsere Uni-Abschlüsse gemacht (wie ihr hier nachlesen könnt), und er hat jetzt im Ruhrgebiet einen Job gefunden, den er ab Januar 2017 antreten wird. Wir werden also zum Jahresende umziehen (das war der Deal: Wenn einer als erstes einen Job findet, zieht der andere mit, es sei denn es ginge richtig in die Pampa)! Es geht voraussichtlich nach Dortmund, und natürlich sind dafür tausend Dinge zu erledigen:
Wohnung in Dortmund finden. Aktuell sieht es mit diesem Punkt ganz gut aus; wir sind am Sonntag in Dortmund für einen Besichtigungstermin, und wenn die Wohnung keine eklatanten Makel aufweist, hoffen wir, dass wir sie kriegen. Wir haben nämlich nur wenig Zeit und können nicht ewig nach der perfekten Bleibe suchen, dementsprechend bescheiden sind unsere Ansprüche. Unsere derzeitige Wohnung hier in Bonn haben wir schon gekündigt und auch schon potenzielle Nachmieter dafür gefunden; wenn da jetzt nicht noch irgendwas dazwischenkommt, und das halte ich für unwahrscheinlich, ist dieser Punkt immerhin schon abgehakt von der Liste.
Umzug organisieren. Sobald wir eine Wohnung haben, müssen wir natürlich auch den Umzug planen. Wann genau wir umziehen, hängt natürlich auch vom Umzugstermin des Vormieters ab; ich hoffe sehr, dass wir spätestens zwischen Weihnachten und Silvester umziehen können, denn möglicherweise muss man ja auch noch ein bisschen renovieren, und es wäre schon nett, wenn man dafür ein paar Tage Zeit hätte. Im allergrößten Notfall müssten wir halt an Neujahr umziehen, aber ich hoffe sehr, dass es nicht dazu kommt. Außerdem brauchen wir natürlich Umzugshelfer, einen Fahrer für den Lieferwagen (denn so große Autos können wir beide nicht fahren), Umzugskartons usw. Und wir müssen ordentlich ausmisten, damit wir mit so wenig unnötigem Ballast umziehen, wie nur irgend möglich. Ich werde übrigens in nächster Zeit hier einen kleinen Blogflohmarkt einrichten, also vielleicht findet ein bisschen was von meinem Kram ja ein neues Zuhause 😉
Führerschein machen. Tjaja, der Großstadtprinz hat in seinem reifen Alter immer noch keinen Führerschein 😉 Da das aber für seinen neuen Job eine Voraussetzung ist, muss er jetzt noch ganz fix zur Fahrschule. Er hat schon mit der Theorie angefangen, und wir lernen abends ganz fleißig für die Prüfung – ist ja auch für mich eine gute Wiederholung. Ab nächster Woche kann er dann hoffentlich mit der Praxis anfangen, es muss ja alles möglichst schnell gehen!
Auto kaufen. Tja, das ist leider auch eine Einstellungsvoraussetzung für den neuen Job. Ich hab noch nie ein eigenes Auto besessen, also wird das auch eine komplett neue Erfahrung für mich / uns. Und natürlich kommt da dann noch der ganze Papierkram hinzu, wie die Anmeldung, Kfz-Steuer, Versicherung usw…
Ja, das sind erstmal nur die groben Punkte. Natürlich splittern die sich jeweils in beliebig viele kleine Unterpunkte auf, und dann hängen manche Sachen voneinander ab, Punkt b kann erst erledigt werden, wenn Punkt a erledigt ist etc. Ich hab für dieses ganze Gedöns einen detaillierten, verschachtelten Masterplan erstellt, und natürlich gibt es noch jede Menge andere Listen. Uff. Und das alles bis Jahresende. Und dann ist ja auch noch Weihnachten, wobei ich mich schon schweren Herzens damit abgefunden habe, dass dieses Jahr wohl eher ein Minimalprogramm angesagt ist – keine Adventskalender, keine Deko, kein Plätzchenbacken, kein Tannenbaum. Seufz.
Tja, ihr seht also, es kommt einiges auf uns zu. Ich versuche natürlich, positiv zu bleiben angesichts des Stresses, weil Nervenzusammenbrüche erstens Kraft kosten und zweitens niemanden weiterbringen. Ich sage mir und dem Großstadtprinzen immer wieder, dass wir das schon alles irgendwie hinkriegen werden – hauptsächlich deswegen, weil wir gar keine andere Wahl haben, als es irgendwie hinzukriegen 😀
Allerdings gibt es bei aller Aufregung auch ein paar Punkte, auf die ich mich freue:
Wohnen in einer “richtigen” Großstadt. Ja, ich weiß, nominell ist Bonn auch eine Großstadt (deshalb habe ich auch kein schlechtes Gewissen beim Namen meines Blogs ^^), aber Dortmund, sollten wir tatsächlich in Dortmund eine Wohnung finden, ist dann nochmal ‘ne Ecke größer. Ich freue mich also auf Kultur, Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, tatsächlich auch auf dieses ganze Ruhrpottflair – auch wenn ich natürlich im Herzen immer ein rheinisches Mädchen bleiben werde.
Ein Auto zur Verfügung haben. Wie gesagt, ich hatte noch nie eins, und wenn man mal zu IKEA musste oder einen größeren Einkauf zu erledigen hatte, wurde das Ganze zur logistischen Herausforderung. Ist bestimmt nett, sich über solche Sachen nicht mehr so viele Gedanken machen zu müssen; außerdem kann man dann bestimmt am Wochenende schöne Ausflüge ins Sauerland machen, was ja dort quasi um die Ecke ist.
Eine neue Wohnung (einrichten). Wir haben jetzt sechs Jahre in unserer Wohnung in Bonn gewohnt, und hier und da macht sich ein Renovierungsbedarf bemerkbar. Auch wenn ich diese Wohnung sehr geliebt habe, freue ich mich darauf, eine neue einrichten zu können. Ich bin ja leider so bekloppt, dass ich im Kopf immer schon Zimmer einrichte (und dekoriere), die es noch gar nicht gibt! 😉 Bitte sagt mir, dass ihr auch so seid?

Hello friends, great things are happening! There are lots of changes coming in the next few weeks, and I wanted to give you all an update, so you’re aware of what’s going on and so you might understand if things are becoming a little quiet around here. But don’t worry, I’m not going to stop blogging or something awful like that! 😉
But first things first: I told you (in this post) that the boyfriend and I graduated from university back in spring, and now he has found a job in the Ruhr area, which is a bit north from where we live in Germany right now. He is going to start working in January, which means we have to move by the end of the year (that was the deal: if one of us finds a job, the other one follows)! We’ll probably live in Dortmund, and of course there are SO MANY things to do:
Find a flat in Dortmund. Currently, this part seems to be working ok; on Sunday we’ll go up there to look at a possible apartment for us, and if the place is not a total letdown, and if there’s not too much competition, I guess we’ll take it. We are a bit short on time and don’t have the luxury of searching for the perfect flat. We’ve already handed in our notice for our current flat here in Bonn, and also found potential tenants for it. If everything goes well in that area, and I don’t see why it shouldn’t, then that’s one point crossed of the list already.
Organize the move. As soon as we have a flat in Dortmund, we obviously need to plan the move. The exact date for that depends on the moving schedule of the tenant currently living in the flat; I do hope that we can move no later than between Christmas and New Years, because we might have to renovate a little, and it would be nice to have a few days for that. If all else fails, we’ll have to move on New Year’s Day, but fingers crossed that it won’t come to that. Besides, we also need helpers for the moving day, a driver for the truck (because neither of us dares to drive such a big car), cardboard boxes and so on. And we also need to clear out a lot of our stuff, because the less we have to move with, the better.
Get the driving license. Yes, you read that right, the boyfriend does not have a driving license, even though he is way past the usual age for that 😉 It’s required for his new job, though, so now he needs to go to driving school as quickly as possible. He has started with the theoretical part already, and we spend our evenings studying for the test, which is also good practice for me. Hopefully next week he can start with the practical lessons, since it all needs to go so fast!
Buy a car. Yeah, that’s another requirement for the new job. I have never owned a car myself, so this will be a whole new experience for me / us. And of course, there’s lots of paperwork that comes with it, like the insurance, the registration, the taxes and so on…
Yeah, well, those are the most basic items on the list. Of course, each of these needs to be separted in a whole lot of subitems, and some things are codependent, so thing b cannot be done before thing a isn’t completed and so on. I made a detailed, intricate master plan for all of this, and there are lots of other lists, of course. Phew. And it all needs to be done by the end of the year. And then there’s also Christmas, which I’ve resigned to the fact that it will be quite minimal this year – no advent calendars, no decorations in the house, no baking, no Christmas tree. Sad face. 🙁
As you can see, there is lots to do. Obviously I try to stay positive in the midst of all the stress and the chaos, because I know that nervous breakdowns are just robbing you of your energy and also don’t help at all. I tell myself (and the boyfriend) over and over again, that we’ll manage somehow – mainly because we have no other choice but to manage 😀
But there are also a few things I look forward to:
Living in a real metropolis. I know that Bonn counts as a big city on the paper, but Dortmund, if we actually end up living there, is a few numbers bigger still. I’m looking forward to all the culture, and the shopping, and to the people there, who as I’ve heard have quite a different mentality than the people here in the Rhineland.
Having a car. As I said, I’ve never had one before, and if you needed a trip to IKEA or if you had a lot of groceries to transport, it definitely was a challenge in terms of logistics. I think it will be nice not to have to worry so much about these things, and also we’ll be able to go on little tours to the Sauerland, which is quite nearby, on the weekends!
Move into (and decorate) a new apartment. We’ve been living in our current flat for six years, and as much as I love this place, there are a few areas where I feel a touch-up is in order. I’m happy to be able to furnish and decorate a new flat soon! In my head, I’m always thinking about designing rooms that don’t even exist yet (please tell me I’m not alone in this!), because I’m a weirdo 😉
